Case Study Overview

What is StartupOS
StartupOS is a platform that was created to help founders build, and launch their startups. Funded by SVB - StartupOS creates various pitch opportunities for founders, connecting them to potential investors once they pass the StartupOS accelerator program.
Over 40% of StartupOS reviewed pitchdecks are successful in hitting their funding goal
StartupOS offers a curated marketplace for vendors to connect with founders for startups needs
StartupOS has worked with over 10,000 different startups and founders since 2023

What is the Founder Dashboard?
The founder dashboard is the go to hub for all startup founders that are participating in StartupOS’ accelerator. They have courses, and a StartupOS score to prepare for “pitch day” → where they’ll present their pitchdecks for funding to investors.
So... what is the problem with the Founder Dashboard?
the three main reasons we were brought on to refresh the founder dashboard were as follows
Outdated brand - it doesn’t reflect the new look and feel of StartupOS
Founders expressed confusion on how to improve their score - making it really confusing to figure out their next steps
Hard to navigate - there was a distinct lack of direction for users on how to access multiple parts of the dashboard

The Solution

How did we get here?

Where do we begin?
Due to time constraints discovery is brief and very rapid on StartupOS’ Founder dashbooard
Stakeholder & Product Owner Interviews
Sitting down to discuss their visions for the future, their concerns, etc.
User feedback
We’re told the user feedback that the C suite, and other employees have heard from users.
Creative Brainstorming as a group
The product design team gathers to digest all the information and does various brainstorming, and inspo gathering sessions
What did we learn?
The following quotes are some of the standout remarks from talking to various people

What do we do next?
Once we gathered all of our thoughts as a product design team and have brain stormed - it’s now time to begin with Information architecture and then wireframing.
There wasn’t a lot of time to conduct more in-depth research due to the short time period and we needed to start iterating to show teh C suite that we were progressing.
Information Architecture
The information Archtecture of the founder dashboard as follows

Primary Dashboard flow
With a better understanding of what is wrong with ASSIST - as well as having access to ASSIST itself. I began creating the user flow for the current version of ASSIST at the time.
All users that aren’t part of the help desk (GSA employees, clients, and contractors) follow the same flow. The flow has been simplified and broken down for the sake of clarity.
Key for User Flow

Brainstorming / Competitive Inspiration
We know the primary flow of the dashboard - to go to their powerups/courses since almost everything else is simply displayed on the dash without need for further flow exploration. We looked at the (at the time) current dashboard and where we could improve it.

Wireframing
How do we organize the dashboard effectively to deliver all information to the user while making it easy to navigate and read?
We started out with adjusting sizes, and positions of the panels that were needed for the founder dashboard, deciding immediately on a very “modular” approach.

Final Designs
The final redesign for the founder dashboard based off all the iterations, and sessions with C suite, engineering etc.
The final dashboard was also made fully responsive to multiple views.

Impact & Reflection
The final redesign for Help based off of all the research, interviews, and multiple iterations with the Product Owners, etc.
